Alcaraz Saves Federer, Djokovic Smashes the Racquet

The recent Wimbledon final was interesting, with a 20-year-old youngster, Carlos Alcaraz, defeating the seven-time winner Djokovic. Alcaraz made Djokovic extremely furious that he literally smashed his racquet against the net pole. On Djokovic’s side, the rage was well worth it. He lost something more valuable than just the year’s cup when he lost this championship.

After 2002, Carlos Alcaraz is the only new name in tennis, with Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and Andy Murray winning tournaments on a regular basis. Yesterday could have been a wonderful day for Djokovic if he had won the cup, matching him with Roger Federer for the most number of wins at Wimbledon. But Alcaraz won, leaving Federer to win again. Djokovic’s anger was visible when he smashed his racquet against the net pole, but despite his reaction, he praised Alcaraz’s remarkable talent. Alcaraz, according to Djokovic, combines the finest traits of Rafael, Federer, and himself.

Until yesterday, the next generation of tennis players after the big three remained a mystery. However, many tennis fans were doubtful about Alcaraz’s mental strength in competing with Djokovic, one of the greatest players in history.  Alcaraz’s answer was his win.

Following this thrilling victory, Sachin Tendulkar tweeted that he will follow Carlos Alcarez for the next 10-12 years, just as he did Federer. Sachin Tendulkar’s tweet just before that was about Djokovic having health issues but still having his mental strength pushing him forward.

Djokovic was also only 20 when he won his first major title at the Australian Open, breaking Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal’s 11-match winning streak. His first Olympics were likewise at the age of 20. The sports world is eagerly awaiting Alcaraz’s future matches to see if he will be the next Djokovic.
